A friendly hello from current President - Josh Smith:
“I want to personally welcome you to explore the possibilities of creating trails that not only meet your needs but also enhance the natural beauty of your landscape. I grew up learning this trade from my father, Dennis Smith, and over the years, I’ve had the privilege of constructing trails across many awe-inspiring locations of the North and Southwest. My approach to trail design and construction is rooted in a deep respect for nature, blending art and science to craft pathways that offer safe, enjoyable access to the outdoors.
My passion lies in creating trails that truly resonate with the land they inhabit. I believe that every project is an opportunity to enhance the value and experience of natural spaces, ensuring that they are both functional and beautiful. Whether you’re looking to develop a new trail system or maintain existing paths, I am committed to delivering results that exceed your expectations and connect people with the beauty of the natural world. I look forward to the opportunity to embark on a journey together to create something truly special.”
“Nature's beauty is a gift that cultivates appreciation and respect for the world around us.”

A note from Founder and past President - Dennis Smith:
Like many people, I've always had a passion for the great outdoors. Since I was a child growing up in rural Oregon, I've found a personal sense of adventure and discovery around every bend and a chance to connect with the land. This personal drive eventually led to a Bachelors of Science in Parks and Recreation Planning from the University of Oregon. My education combined a love of nature with the skills and tools to help others do the same. The founding of Northwest Woodland Services, Inc in 1985 afforded me the opportunity to further hone the work that fueled me most - trail planning/construction.
From Montana to Arizona and every state West, I have worked with incredible people while enjoying the best office view anyone could ask for. If you have a spark to enhance your land, NWWS would love to speak with you!
